The Austrian Institute for Religion and Peace celebrated its 25th anniversary with an extraordinarily rich program.
In addition to EuroISME, the military ethicists of the D-A-CH expert group were also invited.
It was the first meeting after the pandemic-related restrictions since 2020.
The "Enquête" became even more topical as a result of Russia's invasion of the Ukraine, flagrantly violating international law.
All participants agreed: such meetings are indispensable, not only because of the anniversary celebrations, but also because of the rare opportunites for an intensive, direct exchange of opinions!
The widely acclaimed speech was given by EuroISME board member Dr. Andrea Ellner ---> download her lecture "Why do we teach Military Ethics? / Warum lehren wir Militarethik? (in German language)
From the D-A-CH group, Military Dean (retired) PD Dr. Hartwig von Schubert (HSU Hamburg) presented the essential theses of his habilitation "Down with the war", followed by a reply by Dr. Florian Demont (MilAK / ETH Zurich. Videos from both contributions can be streamed from our webinar series (in German language).
Another program highlight was the all-day stay in the Vienna Hofburg with a special tour through selected exhibitions in the Weltmuseum completed by extremely interesting lectures on the main conflict areas of our time: Africa/Ethiopia - Latin America/Colombia - Asia/China
The exhausting days were greeted with contemplative Lauds in the morning and concluded with meditative vespers in the evening in the impressive St. George's Cathedral at the Theresian Military Academy.
