Speaking on behalf of the jury, Lt.Col. (ret) Daniel Beaudoin stated that “in a very well argued, soundly structured and excellently researched paper, Mr. Hope addresses a tragic topic”. In her acceptance speech, Ms. Hope noted how little empirical research is conducted in this area, particularly when it comes to the issue of women becoming the perpetrators rather than the victims. She identified four current methods for preventing rape as a tool of war; applying them to the case of Daesh, she subsequently put forward proposals to improve current prevention methods.
The prize had received the financial support of the Dutch Veteran’s Fund, V-fonds.
